GORDON Brown and Boris Johnson have both received boxes containing 13,000 signatures against the Olympic Games in Greenwich Park.
Members of protest group No to Greenwich Olympic Equestrian Events presented the Prime Minister and London Mayor with the signatures.
They were collected outside the park gates during the summer and 80 per cent of the postcodes were in south-east London.
NOGOE spokesman Sev de Souza said the fact only 25 per cent of the postcodes were from Greenwich showed their cause was not nimby-ism. London Assembly member Jenny Jones presented the box to eccentric, history-loving Boris Johnson with a Latin rhyme.
She said: "I support NOGOE's campaign completely, and the number of signatures gathered clearly shows the strength of local feeling about protecting this treasured park. Using an existing venue would be less wasteful, much less disruptive, and just generally less stupid. I am delighted to be able to play my part by presenting the box of signatures to the Mayor."
A group of British Equestrian Federation World Class riders gave the venue their seal of approval during a visit with Olympic chiefs last week.
They praised the "amazing" and "iconic" venue and Greenwich Park's "sheer magnificence, tradition and heritage".
